With the European Union on one side and Russia on the other Belarus' formerly insignificant location caused it to fall into a tug o' war. Europeans lifeline which is the Russian oil and gas and the ambitious project of china coming from the east added on top of the political instability creates an unprecedented situation that needs to be solved urgently. Lukashenko's grip on power since the 1994 election caused grave concern in the west. Its people sick of the stagnant political situation saw the 2020 election as the last nail in the coffin for Belarusian democracy thus huge waves of people poured onto the streets denying to just witness such a massacre of their country that they fought so hard to gain.
